Fast, Early Actuation
MX2A Speed Silver registers after only 1.2 mm of downward travel, making the switching point noticeably earlier than on standard-travel linear switches.
CHERRY · MX2A SERIES
CHERRY MX2A Speed Silver is a fast-actuating linear mechanical switch designed around a short 1.2 mm pre-travel. It combines 45 cN actuation with a shortened 3.4 mm total travel, allowing each keypress to register earlier than a standard full-travel linear switch.

02 / THE ESSENTIALS
03 / WHY SPEED SILVER
MX2A Speed Silver registers after only 1.2 mm of downward travel, making the switching point noticeably earlier than on standard-travel linear switches.
There is no tactile bump or intentional click mechanism. The key travels continuously through the stroke.
The short actuation distance requires less key travel before an input registers.
04 / THE KEYSTROKE
Speed Silver is defined by its short pre-travel. The switch registers after 1.2 mm of key movement instead of requiring a longer stroke before actuation.
Choose Speed Silver when early actuation matters more to you than a standard full-travel switching point.

Sound varies with keyboard case, plate, keycaps, mounting structure, and recording setup.
07 / CHOOSE YOUR FIT
Choose the mounting version that matches your keyboard PCB and plate.
3-PinThe 3-pin option uses the standard switch contacts and center mounting post without the two additional PCB locating pins.
5-PinThe 5-pin option adds two PCB locating pins for compatible PCB layouts.
Choose based on your keyboard PCB—not sound or feel.
Product photographs show the selected mounting version; confirm PCB compatibility before ordering.08 / BEFORE YOU BUILD
CHERRY MX2A Speed Silver uses the standard MX-style switch format. Your keyboard must support the mounting layout you select.
Choose 3-pin or 5-pin based on your PCB and plate layout.
For hot-swap boards, check the socket, PCB holes and plate layout before ordering.

11 / IN DETAIL
The switch uses a 45 cN actuation force with continuous linear travel and no tactile pressure point.
MX2A Speed Silver uses 3.4 mm total travel, shorter than the 4.0 mm travel used by many traditional full-height MX switches.
The switch does not earn the “Speed” name simply by using a lighter spring. Its 45 cN actuation force is similar to other light CHERRY linear switches; the key difference is that the electrical switching point arrives earlier in the stroke. Speed Silver actuates earlier, not simply lighter.
MX2A Speed Silver has no intentional click mechanism.
More Sensitive Than Standard-Travel Switches. The short 1.2 mm pre-travel means a shallow press can register a key. Users coming from longer-travel switches may need time to adjust.
Not Lighter Just Because It Is “Speed”. MX2A Speed Silver actuates at 45 cN. Its main difference is earlier actuation and shorter travel, not unusually low spring force.
No Tactile Feedback. The switch is linear, so there is no tactile bump to indicate when the electrical actuation point has been crossed.

12 / GOOD TO KNOW
Yes. It is a linear mechanical switch with no tactile bump and no intentional click.
MX2A Speed Silver actuates at 45 cN.
Its main advantage is its short 1.2 mm pre-travel, allowing the switch to register earlier in the key stroke.
Do not judge the two primarily by spring weight. Speed Silver's defining difference is its shorter actuation distance and reduced total travel rather than simply being a lighter switch.
MX2A Speed Silver uses 3.4 mm total travel.
It can be, but the short 1.2 mm actuation point makes it more sensitive than standard-travel switches. Users coming from longer actuation distances may need time to adjust.
Its short actuation distance means shallow presses can register sooner. Whether this feels too sensitive depends on the user and typing style.
No. MX2A Speed Silver is linear and has no intentional click mechanism.
Yes. CHERRY lists MX2A Speed Silver as factory lubricated.
Choose the 3-pin or 5-pin version that matches your keyboard PCB.
MX2A-51NA is the transparent RGB-compatible 3-pin version. MX2A-51NB is the transparent RGB-compatible 5-pin version with two additional PCB locating pins.
Yes, when the PCB, socket and mounting holes support the selected MX-style footprint.
CHERRY rates MX2A Speed Silver for more than 100 million actuations.
