Why does HMX Rain feel scratchy if it is a linear switch?
The texture is intentional. Rain was designed to keep an even sandy or scratchy sensation through the press instead of trying to feel glass-smooth. It remains linear because there is no designed tactile bump.
What is rail bottom-out?
The rail bottom-out gives the end of the stroke a more defined stopping point. Rain has 4.0 ± 0.2 mm total travel.
Which HMX Rain force should I choose?
The 37g version is the lightest and bottoms out at 45g with a 22 mm spring. The 42g version is the middle option at 50g bottom-out, while the 48g version is firmest at 57g bottom-out; both use 20 mm springs.
Is the 42g HMX Rain a 50g or 53g bottom-out switch?
The 42g version on this page is specified at 42g actuation and 50g bottom-out.
Is HMX Rain compatible with hot-swap keyboards?
It works in hot-swap keyboards that accept 5-pin MX-style mechanical switches. It is not for Hall Effect or magnetic PCBs. Some boards or plates only accommodate 3-pin switches, so check your PCB and plate before ordering.
Is HMX Rain factory lubed?
Yes. The factory lubrication is tuned around the intended textured feel rather than trying to remove every trace of friction. Heavy relubing may change the character that makes Rain distinctive.
Is HMX Rain a good choice if I want the smoothest linear possible?
No. If your main goal is extremely smooth travel with as little texture as possible, Rain is the wrong design direction. Its sandy feedback is one of the product's defining traits.
Does HMX Rain support RGB or SMD LEDs?
The current authoritative product material does not confirm a specific LED or SMD compatibility claim. If lighting compatibility is essential to your build, verify your PCB and switch orientation before buying.
How many switches are in a KeebPilot pack?
10 switches — best for sampling Rain before committing to a full-board pack. Choose 70 switches for many smaller builds, 90 for many 75% or TKL layouts, and 110 for full-size boards or extra spares. Always count the switch positions on your exact keyboard because layouts vary.
