How does Magnetic Spark feel?

Spark is a factory-lubed linear Hall Effect switch: 33 ± 5 gf initial force, 45 ± 10 gf bottom-out force and no designed tactile bump or click. These describe different points in the stroke, not a universally fixed actuation force. Keyboard sensors and firmware determine supported actuation settings.

Light resistance, build-dependent sound

A light initial force can suit effortless repeated inputs but may feel sensitive if you prefer firmer springs. Try Spark in your compatible keyboard before a full replacement. Gateron's double back-covered acoustic design is a manufacturer claim; case, plate, keycaps, mounting and recording setup shape the result. Prefer a genuine recording of your intended build to a fixed tone label.

Inside the Magnetic Spark design

Gateron's dual-drive modular design separates the keypress-guiding section from the lower magnet-bearing assembly. It aims to control alignment during travel. Construction and lubrication describe the design; they do not prove measured latency, gaming improvement or a universal sound signature.

Consider Spark if

Your keyboard maker confirms this exact Hall Effect switch.

  • You prefer a light linear press without a tactile bump and want to test a few keys.
  • You want factory lubrication and are interested in the separate stem and magnetic assembly.
  • You have checked magnet orientation, mechanical clearance, PCB revision and supported firmware.
  • You will choose color and quantity after confirming compatibility and feel.
Consider another option if

You need a different sensing platform or verified silent performance.

  • Your keyboard uses ordinary contact-based 3-pin/5-pin MX sockets or optical sensing.
  • Your board maker has not confirmed Spark geometry and its N-pole-facing-PCB arrangement.
  • You require a measured latency improvement or a fixed tone independent of case and plate.
  • You need switches available now: this reference listing is out of stock and cannot be purchased.

4 switches

A focused test or four selected gaming keys.

A four-pack can cover WASD on a compatible board. It is not a full-keyboard set. Check the intended feel and sensing behavior before mixing switch models.

10 switches

A small group of keys or incremental changes.

Ten switches can cover selected keys, incremental replacements or spares. Count the keys you actually intend to change. A larger quantity is optional; it does not establish compatibility or improve the keyboard’s supported features.

61 / 70 switches

Count a full replacement and any optional spares.

Use 61 only for boards needing no more than 61 switches; a 60% label is not an exact key count. Seventy covers more keys or spares. Consistent switches can provide consistent feel; verify the selected fulfillment packaging.

Confirm Hall Effect compatibility first

Spark requires a compatible magnetic sensing system, physical geometry and firmware. Unlike a contact-based mechanical switch, it interacts with a Hall Effect sensor. Gateron specifies its magnetic N pole facing the PCB; matching polarity alone does not prove compatibility with every HE keyboard.

Match the exact PCB

Confirm your keyboard model and PCB revision with its maker. Similar model names can use different switch platforms.

Check mechanical clearance

Confirm mounting geometry, travel and cap/stabilizer clearance. A cross-style stem or fitting keycap does not make Spark compatible with ordinary MX electrical hot-swap boards.

Check sensor requirementsConfirm Spark support and N-pole-down orientation.
Check firmwareActuation settings and Rapid Trigger require compatible firmware.
No universal fitNo blanket Wooting, SteelSeries, Corsair or other-brand compatibility is claimed.

How many switches should you order?

BUYING NOTES

CONTROLLED TRAVEL

Separate guidance and magnetic sensing

Gateron describes an upper section that guides the keypress and a separate lower magnetic assembly that interacts with the Hall Effect sensor. Its cylindrical-stem concept and factory lubrication aim to support low-friction motion and controlled alignment. These are construction intentions, not a measured zero-latency or gaming advantage. Electronics and firmware still determine real system performance; compare the design only after establishing compatibility.

KEYBOARD SETTINGS

Total travel is not a trigger setting

Spark's 3.2 ± 0.1 mm travel does not fix the actuation point. A compatible keyboard may offer adjustable actuation within its supported range. Rapid Trigger, calibration and sensor readings belong to the PCB and firmware. No standalone 0.1 mm trigger point, RT threshold, sensitivity or end-to-end latency is guaranteed. A larger pack does not enable these features. Follow the exact board maker's instructions before changing or mixing switches.

SOUND AND UPKEEP

Acoustic design is not a test result

Gateron describes a double back-covered acoustic design and a translucent, light-diffusing top. “Hi-Fi” is manufacturer positioning, not a certified tone or KeebPilot sound score, decibel level or frequency curve. RGB depends on the board’s LEDs, PCB layout and case; the switch has no powered LED module. The maker’s bottom drainage feature is not a waterproof rating or proof of keyboard liquid resistance. Keep liquids away and compare reliable sound samples from known builds.

Questions about Magnetic Spark

Are Gateron Magnetic Spark switches compatible with all Hall Effect keyboards?

No. Hall Effect support alone is not a sufficient compatibility guarantee. Confirm your specific board, magnetic sensor requirements, magnet polarity, mounting geometry and firmware. Gateron describes an N-pole-down configuration facing the PCB.

Can I install Magnetic Spark switches in a normal mechanical hot-swap keyboard?

No. A conventional MX mechanical PCB is designed for contact-based switches, while Spark requires a compatible magnetic Hall Effect PCB. A cross-shaped keycap stem does not change that requirement.

What is the difference between Gateron Magnetic Spark Orange and Pink?

Orange and Pink share Gateron’s published family specifications. No reliable separate force, travel, sound or latency ratings are established by color. Choose the offered version and appearance unless your keyboard maker provides verified differences.

How much force do Gateron Magnetic Spark switches require?

The official initial force is 33 ± 5 gf and the bottom-out force is 45 ± 10 gf. These are different points in the key stroke; do not confuse the initial rating with a universally fixed actuation force.

What is the total travel of Magnetic Spark switches?

Gateron publishes a total travel of 3.2 ± 0.1 mm. The actuation point may be configurable in an appropriately compatible keyboard, so this is not a promise that every board supports every setting.

Do Spark switches support Rapid Trigger?

They can be used with magnetic keyboard systems, but Rapid Trigger is enabled and controlled by the compatible keyboard PCB and firmware. A switch alone does not guarantee that feature or a particular sensitivity or latency.

Are Gateron Magnetic Spark switches factory lubed?

Yes. Gateron lists them as pre-lubed. The supplied versions here are not represented as a separate hand-lubing service.

Do Magnetic Spark switches have a tactile bump?

No. Gateron lists Spark as a linear switch, without a dedicated tactile bump or click mechanism. Perceived feedback depends on the spring and the rest of the build.

Do they sound deep, thocky or Hi-Fi?

Gateron promotes a double back-covered acoustic construction intended to shape the sound. The exact tone depends on your keyboard case, plate, keycaps and recording conditions; no controlled KeebPilot sound test is claimed.

How many switches come in a pack?

This listing plans 4, 10, 61 and 70 switches per pack, in one selected color. The 70-piece supplier option is described as a bottle pack. Packaging for other packs must match the final verified fulfillment SKU.

Is a 4-pack enough for WASD?

A four-switch pack can cover four selected keys such as W, A, S and D on a compatible board. Other keys may have different switch behavior if you mix models, so confirm the intended feel and hardware compatibility first.

Should I choose 61 or 70 switches for a 60% keyboard?

Count your actual keyboard switches rather than assuming a layout label equals a fixed key count. Choose 61 only when your board requires no more than 61 switches; 70 adds spares or covers a slightly larger board.

Does the Gateron Spark work with MX-style keycaps?

Spark uses a cross-style stem, but exact cap/stabilizer clearance must be checked. Keycap mounting shape is separate from PCB compatibility: a compatible keycap does not make the switch work on a normal MX electrical PCB.

Does the switch support RGB lighting?

Gateron describes a light-diffusing top housing. Actual RGB appearance and LED support depend on the keyboard LEDs, PCB layout and case design; the switch is not its own powered LED module.

Is Magnetic Spark spill-proof or waterproof?

No waterproof rating has been verified. Gateron describes a bottom drainage feature, but that does not prove liquid resistance of an assembled keyboard; keep liquids away from the electronics.

What is a dual-drive modular magnetic switch?

In Gateron’s description, the upper portion guides the keypress while a separate lower magnetic segment is designed to engage with Hall Effect sensing. The aim is a controlled, stable stroke, not a standalone measured speed advantage.
